Eligibility

The CII EHS Excellence Awards invite participation from Indian industries across sectors that demonstrate a strong commitment to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) excellence.

Location

Open to organisations located anywhere in India.

Industry Sector

Independent businesses, manufacturing units, or divisions from both manufacturing and service sectors operating in India for a minimum of two years are eligible. Organisations from construction, infrastructure, and utilities sectors, including projects in progress for six months or more, are also encouraged to apply.

Previous Participation

Organisations that have previously participated in the CII EHS Excellence Awards are welcome to reapply.

Conflict of Interest

Organisations represented by members of the Award Committee are eligible to apply. To ensure transparency and fairness, the respective committee member will not be involved in the Winner Selection Process.

Award Categories

Special Recognition

CII-EHS Platinum Awards

Highest Honour
  • Qualification Threshold: Only top 10 high scored Mastery Award recipients are eligible.
  • Presentation: These 10 top scoring companies to give a 30-min presentation to the CII Awards Committee. The Committee would again shortlist 5 companies for site visit.
  • Site-visit: Shortlist 5 companies for a final on-site review to determine one “Platinum Award” winner.
  • Framework: A separate framework for Platinum will be used for evaluation and winner selection.

CII-EHS Mastery Awards

Beyond Compliance
  • Purpose: To honour organizations that demonstrate exceptional, beyond-compliance EHS excellence, leadership innovation, and integration of sustainability and business strategy into EHS culture.
  • Eligibility: Open to organizations that have previously won a Gold Awards years in the past.
  • Recognition: CII-EHS Mastery Awards.
  • Qualification Threshold: Organizations must achieve a minimum assessment rating of 95% to be eligible for CII-EHS Mastery Awards.
  • Framework: A standard EHS assessment framework will be used as the foundation for evaluation. However, organizations demonstrating exceptional EHS practices, leadership innovation, community and stakeholder engagement, supply chain integration, benchmarking excellence, and culture transformation, budget consideration, reflecting the integration of sustainability and business strategy into the EHS culture, will additionally be evaluated.
  • MSME Nomination: For the CII EHS Mastery Awards, each participating organization must nominate at least one MSME supplier or vendor for the CII EHS MSME Awards to encourage broader MSME participation.

CII-EHS Maturity Awards

Structured Growth
  • Purpose: To recognize organizations that have established and are strengthening their Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) systems through structured processes, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Eligibility: Organizations with established EHS systems.
  • Recognition: Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards.
  • Sectoral Recognition: Sectoral toppers will be recognized in Maturity and Mastery Awards.
  • Qualification Threshold: Organizations must achieve a minimum assessment rating of 90% for Gold, 85% for Silver, and 80% for Bronze.
  • Framework: Assessment based on process maturity, compliance, and continuous and measurable improvement, consistency, evidence.

CII-EHS MSME Awards

Inclusive Excellence
  • Purpose: Recognizes small and medium enterprises for effective EHS practices within resource constraints.
  • Eligibility: MSMEs demonstrating strong EHS systems, compliance & improvement initiatives.
  • Recognition: CII-EHS MSME Awards.
  • Qualification Threshold: Organizations must achieve a minimum assessment rating of 75% to be eligible for CII-EHS MSME Awards.
  • Framework: The separate Assessment Framework covers key areas of EHS management, compliance, and performance improvement aligned to the scale of MSME operations would be used for evaluation.

How to Apply

Application Submission of Mastery, Maturity & MSME Awards

    Internal Approval is a must: Obtain prior approval from your top management before submitting the application. Submission confirms your organization’s participation in the Awards. Withdrawal will not be accepted once the application is submitted.

    Application Submission: Confirm your site/unit’s participation in the CII EHS Excellence Awards portal by completing and submitting the online application form available at www.ciiehsawards.com

  • 03

    Multiple Locations: For organizations at multiple locations, separate application form must be submitted for each site/unit.

  • 04

    Organization Details: Provide the complete company name, along with site or project details, to ensure accurate printing on trophies and certificates.

  • 05

    Location Information: Mention the site location clearly to facilitate the allocation of assessors based nearby.

Documentation & Process

  • 06

    Turnover & Declaration: Participants are requested to submit a Turnover Declaration Certificate, duly certified by your Statutory Auditor or Chartered Accountant, as proof of their organization’s annual turnover.

  • 07

    MSME Applicants: MSME applicants must upload a valid MSME registration certificate along with the application.

  • 08

    SEZ Units: For sites located in Special Economic Zones (SEZs), select the SEZ status and upload the GST exemption certificate.

  • 09

    Organisation Category: Select the appropriate organization category to enable the assignment of relevant sector experts for the assessment process.

  • 10

    Contact Information: Include multiple contact details in the application form to ensure smooth communication throughout the process. Avoid repeating the same contact details for different fields or representatives.

  • 11

    Award Process: The award process is outlined in the following pages, detailing each stage. CII will remain in continuous contact with participating companies throughout all stages of the process.

Assessment Framework

EHS Management System

Evaluates the structure, effectiveness, and maturity of the organisation’s EHS Management Systems, including leadership commitment, employee participation, and continual improvement.

Compliance

Assesses adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements, risk management practices, and the robustness of operational controls across Environment, Health, and Safety.

Beyond Compliance

Examines sustainability initiatives, innovation, and integration of EHS into core business strategy to achieve long-term value creation and excellence.


The CII EHS Excellence Awards Assessment Framework provides a comprehensive evaluation of an organization’s EHS performance and management maturity. It covers key dimensions such as EHS Management Systems (EHSMS), EHS Compliance and Risk Management, Environment, Health, and Safety, ensuring a balanced and holistic approach to assessing performance.

The framework focuses on leadership commitment, employee participation, operational control, and continual improvement, while integrating sustainability and innovation into core business practices. It helps organizations identify strengths, bridge performance gaps, and align their EHS strategy with global best practices and national regulations.

Through this structured assessment, organizations are encouraged to enhance operational excellence, mitigate risks, and build a proactive safety and sustainability culture that drives longterm business success.

Assessment Objective
